Un estudio en Connecticut College ha determinado que alimaneto altos en grasas y azucar como las Oreo, pueden generar en mismo efecto que la cocaina y la heroina a nuestro cerebro.

The study, which will be presented at the Society for Neuroscience's annual conference next month, also made another discovery: Rats, like humans, like to eat Oreo's creamy center first.
When rats were given Oreos, a protein called c-Fos was expressed strongly in an area of the brain called the nucleus accumbens, which is well known to be active in pleasure and addiction.

"It basically tells us how many cells were turned on in a specific region of the brain in response to the drugs or Oreos," said Connecticut College professor Joseph Schroeder, who led the research. Oreos actually activated cells in this brain area more than did either cocaine or morphine, which suggests that that magical combination of sugar and fat may be even more delectable to our brains than drugs.

Okay guys, time for a science journalism rant! Ready? This time we're talking about why the "Oreos are just as addictive as cocaine" study that's all over the web right now is the absolute worst kind of science journalism. Ready? Let's go!

I don't totally blame journalists for this, although I do blame them for not looking at the study in question more critically before parroting the very bait-worthy headline that Oreos = Cocaine. Here's the actual press release from Connecticut College, which did the experiments:
http://www.conncoll.edu/news/news-archive/2013/student-faculty-research-shows-oreos-are-just-as-addictive-as-drugs-in-lab-rats-.htm#.UmBeoCSim-I

Note I said experiments, not study. That's right, this was essentially a fun experiment between undergrads and a few professors. This isn't the result of a peer reviewed paper, this will not lead to continued Oreo/cocaine research. Why? It was largely to make a completely different point than the one everyone got.
